Aging with grace
Here's the deal.. we age. We are born and from that point on, we are aging.
The media and Hollywood films would tell a story that it is quite normal for someone, that starred in my favourite childhood movie, made over 40 years ago, to today look younger (albeit somewhat "ironed") than she did in the original film!
So the question is 'What to do about aging'?
Age gracefully-
my choice, nourish the skin & body and accept that photos of me
at University, 15 years ago, look, to me, like a child! or...
Spend the mortgage payment on pricey creams claiming to reduce wrinkles in so many days or treatments that will create 'youth' once more. Therein lies a danger... as often anti-aging cream ingredients can be synthetic chemical based and have their own safety issues.
In many cultures, older women are considered wise and beautifu. Sadly in North America and parts of Europe many women are striving to achieve the unachievable skin tone from as young as 40. There are now few celebrities that have not tweaked their skin, a sad role model, thus we have to become a healthy role model instead.
Surely that must be stressful? How do you feel? Pressured to age unrealistically or happy to age with grace?
What can we eat to help the aging process?
Real food is a great start, that is:
- fresh fruit
- vegetables
- grass fed butter or ghee
- coconut oil
- filtered water
- grass fed meat
- fermented foods, sauerkraut
- avoid trans fats
Sadly media promotion of low fat, in my opinion, is what is contributing to many wrinkled faces, we do actually need healthy fats in our diet. Perhaps we are starving our brains in the unattainable goal of constant flawless, wrinkle-free beauty?
Interestingly, a study claimed that cod liver oil taken orally helps maintain soft skin and minimize wrinkles. [1] I take a teaspoon of Blue Ice Fermented cod liver oil mixed with butter oil and must admit that I have noticed that my hair is stronger and skin looks healthier. Hardly a scientific experiment though!
There are traditional plant oils that are
thought to be good for the skin, such as argan oil, rosehip oil,
tamanu nut oil and I am currently using Neal's Yard Remedies
Rosehip oil -my sister gave it to me for Christmas! I usually
use Rejuvenessence serum which works superbly well
to nourish the skin, I use it at night.
Let's age with grace... here's to REAL skin which has lived, laughed and loved life!
