Why reducing consumption is key
There are many environmental toxins in our world. It can be overwhelming, one day we hear about plastic being harmful, especially PVC and then we hear that the sea is full of our waste plastic, it seems our habits are damaging the oceans, and our planet. Then we read that lawn fertilizer is harmful as well our shower gels and body lotions.... It can feel all too MUCH...
We can do a number of things to lessen this concern and feeling of helplessness. Less is more and every little bit counts towards reducing what we consume.
It is not simply the impact on our health that environmental toxins have, what about the people that work to create the plastic products, synthetic chemical personal care products that many of us consume? Reducing demand can mean that safer alternatives are sought.
Reducing buying one item of
needless plastic, or product with synthetic chemicals, is
worth it and if we all did that each week, it would make a
difference.
We can rewrite our future. Imagine a world where we all recycle, eat well and care for our local environment...
BALANCE is crucial alongside consuming less. There is no away when we throw away...
Only buy what you need, which may sound very simple but it can be a challenge when media and friends have the latest toys and you want them too.
Having a compost bin for green waste can reduce what we send to landfill. Remember there is no "away" when we throw away.
Maybe this video will give you an idea of why we need to reduce our consumption of plastic and pressure our local councils to recycle more plastic.
