Economical ways to Detox your Body & our World

How to "Detox your Body & our World"...

The dictionary definition of food is:

"any nourishing substance that is eaten, drunk, or otherwise taken into the body to sustain life, provide energy, promote growth, etc."

Much of what America & Europe eats is not technically FOOD (if the definition above is correct)! Food is not a tweaked, enhanced and enriched product in a plastic packet with a bar code!

Food and Health Eat REAL food!  'In season' is cheaper!

Guide to what is in season

Many of us have lost touch with what vegetables, fruits, meats and fish are in season during the year.  Yet in winter, onions, carrots, turnip, cabbage and leeks are much cheaper than tomatoes, lettuce and sugar snap peas.  Eating locally and seasonally is not only nutritionally better but cheaper too!

Clean your home safely

with bicarbonate of soda, white vinegar & a drop of essential oil.  Avoid expensive conventional cleaners! Cleaner recipe

There are so many adverts on TV for cleaning products, many of which contain potentially harmful ingredients and many are totally unnecessary.  Especially when bicarbonate of soda, vinegar and a drop of eucalyptus essential oil works so well.  Keeping cleaning simple is not only safer but cheaper too.

Don't waste money on air-fresheners.

Open a window.  "Fresh air not air-freshener air"

Spray cans and auto dispensers of air-freshener are expensive & can be toxic!  These little cans have synthetic chemical fragrances and, in a closed house, these ingredients have been found to contribute to headaches, depression and asthma.

Put on an extra sweater & save money!

Leave the heating lower 17c/62F.  Wear more clothes!

Homes that are cooler, allow us to sleep better and save on heating bills!  A brisk walk, even when cold and wet outside, will get the blood circulating, warm you up and cut down on heating bills too.  Even doing housework can help get the blood circulating and certainly vacuuming the floors keeps you warm!

Go to bed earlier & save money on flu medication.

Sleep detoxes, repairs and restores the body.  We really need sleep, preferably eight hours a night, try going to bed before 10pm.  Sleep allows the body to detox and recouperate.  "Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy & wise!" J.Clarke 1639.

Questionable Ingredients in Skincare card

If you can opt for genuinely certified organic skin care, then that is the ideal, as it is free from synthetic chemicals.  Testimonials from my clients have highlighted that their eczema has cleared up, saving money on medical creams like steroids!

I like Miessence, their products are organically grown and many products are fully certified organic!  Actual Organics rep for their products, as I believe they are the best purity available on the market.

Get to know what you are putting on your skin! To nourish the skin, I like coconut oil or certified organic sunflower oil, a couple of drops of your favourite pure essential oil and you have your very own nourishing face oil!

Plan meals.

Write a menu plan for the week.  Prepare to use leftovers making easy soups & curries.

Writing a menu plan and sticking it on the fridge can take away a great deal of stress and remove the "what is for dinner?" worry.  Writing a shopping list not only makes shopping easier but it makes it less likely you will give in to temptation to impulse buy.  Why not plan a roast chicken on a Sunday? then plan to cook a curry, with rice, on Monday night.  Save the chicken bones and make chicken bone stock early morning Tuesday in a crock pot/slow cooker.  Then create a nourishing soup for dinner on Wednesday?  A $20 chicken can provide three or four meals!

Cut back on magazines & TV.

Your local library will have magazines and then you save £3.50 or $5 which you would have spent on a glossy magazine, which is only advertising more expensive cosmetics & clothes!  Better still read a free book from your library.  Reading calms the mind & is less stimulating than TV before bed.

Daily exercise keeps us well.

walkingstairsOur body is designed to move and by taking daily exericse we keep the digestive & circulatory systems healthy.  A brisk walk, bike ride, or ski, all assist the body to sweat and thus detox.  Sitting in an office all day may earn us money but we also need exercise.  Why not take the stairs rather than the lift? or get off the train one stop earlier and walk?  There is no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes!! Get moving & get smiling, as exercise boosts the brain & feel good chemicals.

Buy a re-usable coffee mug.

Sitting in a coffee shop with a good book or meeting a friend is a real pleasure.  Big fan of supporting local coffee shops, independently run coffee shops.  Fair trade, organic coffee...yum.

However, buying a take away coffee everyday is just cutting into your hard earned income.  Buy a reusable, thermos coffee cup and make your own coffee or tea at home before work.  You can save yourself nearly $1500 a year!
