Synthetic chemical toxins and safety standards
Carcinogens in baby shampoo?
Even though you might think synthetic chemicals have no place in a new born baby's shampoo, sadly these synthetic chemicals are still there. This is why reading labels is so crucial, sadly laws do little to protect us and therefore you have to learn to be a label detective.
As horrifying as it sounds, there are many companies that are making shampoo formulas that have known carcinogens in (1,4-dioxane which is a precursor to formaldehyde formation) which are harmful to health. Known skin irritants and ingredients known to cause dermatitis are regularly present in shampoos ranging from a few dollars to some pricey ranges. It seems crazy that they are allowed in our shampoos in the first place, regardless of the price, but the truth is that they are and so we have to learn and protect ourselves.
Thus using shampoo which is free from sodium lauryl sulphate, ammonium lauryl sulphate and not just relying on marketing but learning what is in your shampoo is important. Taking steps to only using ingredients that are organically grown and allowed in organic products is a step in the right direction.
So what is the alternative?
Miessence produces spa quality organically grown
and many certified organic products, which I use and I am happy to
recommend. I now sell their products as I think they are so
good, they are genuinely high quality and more importantly-
work! Please look at the ingredients
in Miessence products which are organically grown and many
products are certified organic!
The desert rose shampoo is effective and mild, suitable for children and adults. [1] It restores the hair to its natural shine and does not coat the hair, unfortunately unlike many conventional shampoos, which use dimethicone to coat the hair giving a softer 'feel' but in reality only adding to lank hair.
What about baby's precious skin?
The
excellent Miessence Baby Range has a gentle wash for baby's hair
which is exceptionally gentle and is suitable to use on their skin
& hair. The range includes a baby lotion as well but most
babies need little on their skin if just using a super gentle wash
like Miessence baby cream wash. Often it is using harsh
cleansers that then damage the baby's acid mantle on the skin and
then richer moisturizing creams are required. So less is
best!
