Nia
Nia® a joyful blend of nine movement forms including dance arts, martial arts and the healing arts such as Feldenkrais®
Nia celebrated its 25th anniversary
last year and is a barefoot dance practice that heals
mind, body, spirit and emotions. I trained as a Nia teacher
in 2005 and had never stepped into a Nia class before I
trained. I just knew that Nia was for me! I did my
White belt and then three years later I did further training and
completed my Nia Blue belt.
Nia is rather like chocolate... I could describe it but it is better to taste it for yourself.
Nia is joyful and there are no wrong moves, one does as little or as much as one can, there is no right or wrong and therefore Nia is suitable for all.
Nia is taught in schools, fitness centres and also some prisons. Nia is fun with children and I have taught to 4 and 5 year olds - their imagination allows them to really enjoy the experience using their 13 joints and 270 bones, moving fluidly like they are swimming.
Nia Uses Great Music
Nia uses great music that allows you to connect to the silence and the sounds within the music. This Nia promotional video shows you more about Nia and some of the moves.
I have
taught Nia in the UK, Canada and New Zealand. I enjoy running
workshops and have fascilitated numerous workshops on the Joy of
Nia and 'New to Nia'.
I practice the Nia 5 Stages most days, which assists me feeling flexible and having mental clarity. The 5 stages is a series of movements that allow the body to move in a way that seeks joy rather than pushing the body through pain.
